Applications for Year 7 (main round) places:

Applications must be submitted through the local education authority within which you live by the end of October. If you live in a different county to our school, you can still place The Burgate as your first choice. At the beginning of March places are allocated by the local education authority in line with our school admissions policy and parents are informed of the outcome of their application. From there those successful at securing a place  at The Burgate will receive a Welcome Pack and will begin a comprehensive induction process to ensure a successful transition for each child.

The Burgate School has over 25 feeder schools ranging across Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire. At times a student can be the only one transitioning to The Burgate from their Junior School  which may make them apprehensive about starting school. Our comprehensive pastoral system aims to support all students particularly those who are uncertain or anxious about September.

We have a Headstart programme designed to support students identified as needing any additional support with the transition to secondary school which in the Summer Term of Year 6 alleviates fears and anxieties through a series of visits where fun group activities, tours of the school and opportunities to meet other new students and key staff can all help with the transition. The students involved say that it has a hugely positive effect and that they feel much more confident about starting with us as a result.

Main round applications for a Year 7 places in 2024 must be made via the County Council you reside within by 31 October 2023.
